If you’re like us, nothing is more important than family.
At Mitten Made Properties, we’ve worked with a lot of Michigan homeowners who wanted to – and did! – relocate to be closer to their family, for many different reasons.
Maybe you want your extended family to be more involved in your kids’ lives as they grow up (free babysitting is a bonus!), maybe a relative has health issues and needs your support, or maybe you simply have a desire for more camaraderie.
Of course, there are some things you’ll want to consider before making the move.
How Close is Too Close?
Being closer to family is great… but there is such a thing as being too close. Think about it: Do you want your house to be within walking distance of your mother-in-law? (If you don’t know what we’re talking about, watch a few episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond). Make sure you have private space of your own where you can retreat when you need a break, and set clear boundaries from day one for unscheduled visits, spare keys, etc.
How much can you afford to spend on the move? This will impact everything from where you move to, how quickly you sell your home, and even when you move.
What neighborhood are you going to live in? You might want to be just down the street from your family, in the same house, or maybe 30 minutes away. Do you want your kids to be able to safely ride their bikes to grandma’s? Do you want it to be ever so slightly inconvenient for Uncle Jim to drop by uninvited after work? Everyone’s situation will be different, so be sure to weigh the pros and cons of different neighborhoods in the area.
What lifestyle do you want to have after the move? The neighborhood you choose and the amenities it includes (or doesn’t include) will have a big impact on how often you go for walks, go to the park, attend local events, etc. If you’re an avid runner used to just lacing up and starting your route at your own front door, make it a priority to find a new home with the same opportunity. If you love being able to walk to the market for a few grocery items, keep that in mind. Family is important, but self-care should always be your top priority! You don’t want to feel like a fish out of water in your new town.
And, as always, when you’re ready to make the move for family or any other reason, Mitten Made Properties can buy your Metro Detroit house fast for cash, give us a call at (248) 883-3340. We can make you a fair cash offer within 48 hours and close in as little as two weeks. We’ll even pay all closing costs!
